Qualcomm Shares Vision of AI-Native 6G

Qualcomm 6G Leadership Day took place this week, “where leaders, industry experts and policymakers explored how AI is reshaping the next generation of wireless connectivity and the role Qualcomm is playing in building it”. At the event, executives described 3 major areas of Qualcomm's 6G strategy:

1. 6G Becomes an AI-native platform

The biggest message from Qualcomm's 6G Leadership Day is that 6G will be about much more than faster wireless speeds. Qualcomm envisions 6G as an AI-native network combining:

  • Connectivity

  • AI and high-performance computing

  • Integrated sensing

  • Edge and cloud intelligence

  • Digital twins and real-time data

AI running on devices and at the edge can potentially support more personalized experiences for people with disabilities, including improvements in communication, interaction, and how users access digital services. Edge AI introduces advanced capabilities around real-time sensing and decision-making, which is even more crucial for the connected vehicle and autonomous systems space. In addition, the convergence across technology solutions including IoT, digital twins, and physical AI, the industrial and enterprise use cases expand. Qualcomm shared new platforms for areas such as AI-native networking, routers and gateways, access points, edge computing, and enterprise and industrial connectivity. Qualcomm's broader Dragonwing strategy is essentially about bringing AI + compute + connectivity together at the intelligent edge, rather than sending everything back to a centralized cloud.

  • Dragonwing Q-2390 - combines compute, on-device AI, connectivity, and multimedia

    • Combines processing, AI acceleration, machine vision, and industrial networking

  • Arduino VENTUNO Q- Powered by a Qualcomm Dragonwing IQ8 Series processor

    • Uses a "dual-brain" architecture combining AI-enabled computing with real-time control

    • Designed for intelligent machines, robotics, industrial applications, and smart cities

    • Its first preorder batch reportedly sold out in under an hour.
