SCOTTSDALE, Arizona, 28th September 2009 – According to new research from Compass Intelligence (http://www.compassintelligence.com), there are undiscovered opportunities for prepaid wireless providers in US companies with 5 to 99 employees. Compass Intelligence surveyed 10,011 U.S. mobile phone users, business owners and decision-makers in June of this year. Respondents were asked about their plans to purchase new wireless devices in the second half of 2009. The results paint a provocative picture: more than 20% of adult consumers and business decision-makers are planning to select prepaid plans for new wireless devices before 2009 ends - some are even planning to replace contracts with prepaid as well.
“Contracts (or postpaid plans) are still favored by both consumers and business owners according to our research. However, prepaid has growing appeal, particularly with small business owners and also with wealthy consumers. Among small business owners planning to purchase prepaid devices in 2H09, nearly 40% plan to give one or more of these devices to their employees,” says Kneko Burney, Chief Strategist for Compass Intelligence. Mrs. Burney adds, “The shift toward prepaid suggests a desire for more flexible contract options, likely due to a lower tolerance for long-term risk, among mobile phone buyers. In this recession, flexibility may be becoming more important than long-term cost savings or top-end devices for some customers.”
Results from 10,011 U.S. Mobile Phone Users Surveyed:
- When adding a new device, 22 percent of respondents indicate they will add prepaid mobile.
- The most likely prepaid buyers in 2H09 will be those users with multiple devices.
- Small Business owners are more likely to choose prepaid plans and the most likely to give them to their employees in the second half of 2009, as compared to other business decision-makers.
